It has come to my attention that emotions and opinions are on edge on here lately. Everyone is under a lot of strain over serious happenings in our community. It is understandable. I thought this might help take our minds off of the bickering for just a while. I will start by mentioning some things that "I believe". There will be no call for badmouthing anyones beliefs or for unkindness. They can be humorous or not, just NOT MEAN! Got it?! :)
I believe that Unicorns should be called Unihorns.
I believe there should be nap time factored in at work right after lunch.
I believe Mt. Dew should be named the National drink.
I believe that all Americans should shut up, stand up, take off your hat, put your hand over your heart and sing during our Nation's Anthem!
I believe ALL U.S. Veterans should be treated with the utmost respect and reverence.
I believe there should be a law against saying, "I ain't got none", or "I done did that."
I believe drug testing should be mandatory for everyone with a job.
I believe our welfare system...well let's just say, needs "re-evaluted".
I believe in the death penalty. I would just like to expedite it a little.
I believe in love at first sight.
Okay, I will end with that. Now let's see what you believe.

and I believe that there should be a law against beginning any sentence
with, "I'll tell you what..." and I believe that aerosmithfan's post is a cool

I believe that parents should make their children put down the gameboy, turn off the computer, cellphone, iPod and TV and go outside to play and use their imagination.
I believe we should have TV shows now days that are similar to I Love Lucy, Dick VanDyke Show, etc. (less sex and violence). And for shows about murdering someone a show like Murder She Wrote or Diagnosis Murder.
I believe we should stop and think first before opening our mouths and whinning......unless our purpose is to just annoy the heck out of the person we are talking to!

I believe a person should do whatever they want so long as they don't cause harm to anyone else. I also believe fishing licenses should be free! The next thing you know, Indiana will be requiring licenses for the dirty air we breath. I believe people should mind their own businesses. I believe the greatest gift from God is children(when they are not annoying you, lol). I believe I have lived my entire life in the best spot in the world. I believe this is a great thread. Thank you.

Mike, I believe that if parents spent a lot, and I mean a lot, of time with their children, then there would be less violence from kids. There are kids who are so mixed up, and wonder why? Mom wants to leave Dad, but, she can't take them with her, cause she can't afford housing, yet, she won't take the house away from Dad, because he worked so hard to buy it. Dad sits back and cuts Mom down, every minute of the day....Mom cuts Dad down. They go out to play to escape the arguing. Play turns into whatever the kids see to do, whether it be good or bad. They have energy, and if parents don't spend the time with them, to exhaust that energy, and satisfy the curiosity, they'll find other ways to vent their frustrations. If you're a parent, spend all the time you can with your kids. Keep them busy.

This is a WONDERFUL thread!!!!
I believe in my family,
I believe in this excerpt from a poem by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton:
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.
“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” - Anatole France
I believe miracles can and do happen (two of my kids are living proof of that!)

Oh how right you are!! Kids need parents.
I believe that parents that cannot truley appreciate the gift they are given should pass their gift on to someone who WILL appreciate it and give themselves completly to it.

Thanks to everyone for all the great posts and the compliments on the thread. It's nice to see the tension, not quite so thick on GCN. I have been on vacation for a few days and was surprised to see all the new posts! It IS great to think about something positive for a change. I will give you another "I believe", BUT this one belonged to my mother who has passed on. It is something she used to say to me growing up, and I will admit is very difficult to do. You might have to think about this one to make sure you understand it's meaning. She would say, "I believe that the LAST thing you would ever do for someone, should be the FIRST thing you should do." My mother wasn't just talk either. Everyday of her life she "walked the walk".

I believe that every child should get to go camping and FISHING.hopeing they will catch one. Also go to a farm and see where eggs and milk and veggies come from.
Every child should get to go to the jail and or prison and talk to some hard timers/ go to the ER room to see what some of these kids look like when they wreck from drinking.
It would never happen but go to hospital when some one has been in labor for 12 to 14 hours trying to have a baby...than just maybe some of these kids would think twice before having SEX. Please don't write me all kinds of hate mail. But just think how many of our young babies are having babies. So Very SAD.

I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried
And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the invention of any man
I believe that He who suffered was crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and on the third day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven where He sits at God's mighty right hand
I believe that He's returning
To judge the quick and the dead of the sons of men
And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the invention of any man
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church
The communion of Saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends
And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
I did not make it, no it is making me
I said I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and
not the invention of any man

I believe trash goes in, trash comes out. Example: My son was picking at his ear because he became somewhat obsessed with ear wax after watching his 59-year-old dad with a perforated eardrum from 'Nam flushing out his ear with peroxide. Next thing you know, a kid reports he's giving them the "bird" while checking his ear. My kid doesn't know what "the bird" is, and I had to explain it.
I believe God judges, not man, and we should spend less time berating others, and more time looking at ourselves.
I believe there is no political party that can completely define my beliefs, and I am, although frustrated with my choice of candidates, happy to know that no one thinks exactly like me. I don't want to be labeled.
I believe that if I don't learn something new, feel some pang of conscience, realize some sense of satisfaction, or laugh before I go to bed, I've wasted the day.
I believe my kid teaches me more than I teach him. I love the way his brain works!
I believe in heroes, namely my dad.
I believe everyone is interesting, even the people I don't like.
And I think we should sing more, or at least hum a tune during the day.

Dear Daughter of Tall Tree,
We actually did a lot of this in Girl Scouts and Girl Scout camp. We even got to tour PSI back in the day. I distinctly remember fishing, camping, and I really mean roughing it, with snakes in your tent included, and we did tour the jail. We were not allowed to see the prisoners, though, but we did get to stand inside a cell. I also remember in middle school we had to watch that horrific movie with bloody images included that showed a drunk driving wreck. I remember we even got to see the crunched up car...as they brought it to the school for us to see along with the presentation. We went to visit a monastery, visited farms, and got to see chickens and cows up close. All of the things we did were wonderful and very enlightening. But, in my family, birthing babies was private...I don't know why? Yes, that would be eye opening to teenagers!

I believe men often underestimate women.
I believe women often underestimate themselves.
Here's one that may surprise some of you...
I believe prostitution should be legalized.
Women profit handsomely in pornography-
making $5,000 a shoot compared to the $50 men make.
Why is it legal to have sex for profit in front of a camera, but not otherwise?

Idon't believe in superstars,
Organic food and foreign cars.
I don't believe the price of gold;
The certainty of growing old.
That right is right and left is wrong,
That north and south can't get along.
That east is east and west is west.
And being first is always best.
But I believe in love.
I believe in babies.
I believe in Mom and Dad.
And I believe in you.
Well, I don't believe that heaven waits,
For only those who congregate.
I like to think of God as love:
He's down below, He's up above.
He's watching people everywhere.
He knows who does and doesn't care.
And I'm an ordinary man,
Sometimes I wonder who I am.
But I believe in love.
I believe in music.
I believe in magic.
And I believe in you.
Well, I know with all my certainty,
What's going on with you and me,
Is a good thing.
It's true, I believe in you.
I don't believe virginity,
Is as common as it used to be.
In working days and sleeping nights,
That black is black and white is white.
That Superman and Robin Hood,
Are still alive in Hollywood.
That gasoline's in short supply,
The rising cost of getting by.
But I believe in love.
I believe in old folks.
I believe in children.
I believe in you.
But I believe in love.
I believe in babies.
I believe in Mom and Dad.
And I believe in you.
