I had many fond memories playing both Little League and Babe Ruth baseball while wearing a Princeton uniform; however, my most gratifying memories were those as a Post 25 player. I feel very fortunate to have played four years for Princeton Post 25 and manager Jack Todd.
Jack lived and breathed Princeton baseball. He and his wife Shirley were the life blood of Post 25 and it is to them I offer my thanks for such tremendous memories. It wasn't always about winning and losing, but just playing the greatest game ever invented. When I see those whom were teammates during those years our discussion will always reflect those fond memories that we shared. They seem to have grown and become more embellished, but there is never a time I don't enjoy talking about old times.

Thanks Jack and Shirley!

Yep Jack and Shirley were good, but, let's go back just a little farther. In the good ole' days , do you all remember a local, by the name of Jim, he was one of my dads' best friends, from childhood into adult life. The name Pegram ring a bell to any of you ? Yes, Jim Pegram. And, remember the guy at the "gate" ? Well it was "Fuzzy" Wright. Another of my dads' and Pegrams' friends. His daughter Jean and my dad were good friends, and in the same Princeton High Class of '41. By the way my dad and Jim and a lot of others play "Legion" ball when I was still just a little bity kid. My dad went on to play for the "White Sox" for a couple of years 'till he came back and settled down to "real" business life in Princeton and became serious about helping a lot of people out with there finances....by the way, on the conversation about grocery stores, any one remember the store at Mt.Olympus ? It was owned and ran by Alex"Hatfield" And Virginia"Cecil" Armsrtong. Two of the best people I had the opportunity to know and become friends with in this life.

The sad thing is that there were a couple of people (Mike Pegram was involved financially) interested in bringing Post 25 Baseball back two years ago. They had the coach selected and were beginning to work on the schedule when a member of the Legion requested that he would like to be involved....kind of like a GM. This "GM" was completely lost when it came to anything baseball related thus driving off the new coach and Pegram. So here we sit in Gibson County without an American Legion team. What a shame.....and YES you're right about Jack Todd and Jim, they solidified what American Legion baseball is all about.
