View Full Version : Shootin Muzzleloaders
Went down to the muzzleloader shoot today. I didn't shoot because I'm low on flints. (That sounds better than the real reason, which is that I'm not in their league.) We took the BB gun so that Betsey could launch some into the river. With the high water, there was no shortage of floating bottles and cans to shoot at. Here's some pix, a good day was had by all.
Shame on anybody that chose to spend the day inside...
The last pic is of Dave Reising (of JL fame) scoring some targets.

Looks like a lot of fun but all of my guns load from the wrong end.

Got a muzzleloader a couple of days ago. Took it out to sight the scope in. WOW. Guess my 12ga will be collecting dust!

Arn,
Muzzleloading can be very fun.... the feeling that you get by packing the load and shoving it all down the barrel is like a feeling of being Daniel Boone :) . Although, breaking the wooden ram rod isnt much fun at all... LOL

I`ll stick to loading my own ammo.Smoke poles just aren`t my style although I do have a fondness for cap & ball revolvers.

that is what I am talking about IH, measuring, lubing, loading.... just a cool feeling... I did try the quick loads and they were fine as well. nothing like sitting around the room with the guys measuring and loading.. chatting about all the hunting trips. I have never had nor loaded a revolver.. I am sure that is fun too.
Nothing like pouring powder down the barrel, spitting on a piece of pillow ticking, starting the round ball, cutting the ticking, and pushing it down the barrel (slow, so that the ramrod doesn't break!), pouring powder into the pan, lowering the frizzen...........and then realizing the first shot did the trick and the backstraps are already down:p

Arn, You are 100% correct,Love those flint smokepoles!!! As you know, If you study these frontstuffers and learn what makes them reliable,It'll give you a great feeling of accomplishment you cant get from no other firearm:) It can take a few years! It did me! No turning back now, And to hand build a flinter and get to know her it's like falling in love all over again!Been shooting flinters since 1981, It's the real deal ;) Dave R

Kelley said the pix I sent you came back. We're having problems with our email once again. Here they are so that you can see them and if you want any bigger ones, let me know and I can burn them to disk. These have been reduced to fit on here.

Is pic 3 a left handed gun?
Yes! #3 is a left handed flinter built by M kemper son of legend C Kemper! Fantistically hand crafted and an excellant shooter, It's owned by a proud owner in Gibson county which wishes his name not be disclosed!Dave R
